Senior Quantity Surveyor



  • Responsible for the day-to-day commercial control of numerous construction projects, across varying sectors.
  • Project value = up to £8m
  • All forms of contract and procurement routes
    • The position is based at company headquarters, Steeton, Keighley, with site visits as required, reporting directly to Commercial Manager.
    • Company/Group turnover = £15m

      • Establish and develop productive and professional working relationships with all stakeholders, including members of the Employer’s team and the supply chain.
      • Ascertain an understanding of the contract and its constituent parts sufficient to appreciate the principal risks and opportunities that will need management on the project
      • Draft all necessary documentation for procurement of sub-contractors and suppliers and ensure that other contributors for constituent parts provide their procurement information on time.
      • Monitor cost control and implement cost mitigation strategies, assessing risk, at all times acting fairly and reasonably
      • Ensure that the company’s entitlement to value is maximized, assessing opportunity, at all times acting fairly and reasonably.
      • Ensure that all contractual notices, including payment applications and valuations, are issued professionally and on time.
      • Produce a monthly commercial report including the Cost Value Reconciliation and Cost to Complete exercises, fully describing the position and plan for management of risk, opportunity, cost and value.
        • Ensure that any insurance risks &/or events are notified in detail
        • Assist the project manager to ensure that all notices required by the company and any statutory notices are received.
        • Monitor relationships with external parties and advise senior management and the directors of any matters that appear likely to lead to formal dispute proceedings. Protect the company’s position in all instances, but take a conflict-avoidance approach to such matters.
        • Ensure that the company’s commercial position for the administration of post-completion defects is protected.
        • You will be expected to engage with the company’s senior management team to contribute to ways and means that ensure that the company maintains a healthy and happy workforce.
        • Be prepared to be adaptable to changing situations and react in a professional fashion, managing your time to prioritise
        • Ensure timely agreement of final accounts with the Employer and supply chain.
        • Establish and monitor accurate cashflow and turnover forecasts

          • Ideally a degree in appropriate discipline or a Postgraduate Diploma A minimum of an HNC or equivalent vocational experience
          • Corporate membership of a professional body is desirable but not essential
