OGL Construction was appointed to deliver a programme of specialist EV charging and infrastructure works at Harrogate Bus Station, supporting the continued electrification of Transdev’s bus fleet in Harrogate.
Following the introduction of 39 new electric buses, additional charging infrastructure was required to increase the capacity of the existing bus station. The project included the installation of a new pantograph charging system, supplementing the three existing pantographs already operating at the site.
OGL also oversaw the supply and installation of two additional dual charging units, further increasing the charging capability available to the expanding electric bus fleet.
A key challenge was delivering the works within a live and operational bus station, where maintaining existing services and minimising disruption to passengers and vehicle movements was essential. OGL carefully coordinated the programme around operational requirements, with works undertaken out of hours to enable the bus station to remain operational throughout the construction period.
The scheme also incorporated associated civil engineering and infrastructure works, including drainage diversions, alterations to existing external areas and general maintenance and improvement works. These were coordinated alongside the specialist electrical infrastructure to provide a complete solution ready for the operation of the new vehicles.
Completed in July 2024, the project forms part of the wider investment in the electrification of public transport infrastructure across Harrogate and demonstrates OGL’s experience in delivering specialist EV infrastructure within live transport environments.
