Starbeck Bus Depot – Infrastructure Upgrade

OGL Construction was appointed as Principal Contractor to deliver an EV charging and infrastructure upgrade at Starbeck Bus Depot, Harrogate, supporting the electrification of Transdev Blazefield’s bus fleet.

The scheme formed part of a wider investment programme supported by the Government’s Zero Emission Bus Regional Areas (ZEBRA) funding programme, enabling the introduction of 39 zero-emission electric buses operating across Harrogate and the surrounding area.

A key element of the project was the coordination and installation of 23 dual EV charging points, providing the depot with the charging infrastructure required to support the new fleet. OGL coordinated the specialist installations alongside the associated civil engineering and infrastructure works.

The project extended beyond the charging equipment, with significant refurbishment works also undertaken to the existing depot yard. Delivery required careful planning and phasing around the operational requirements of an established bus depot, maintaining vehicle movements and day-to-day activities throughout the construction programme.

The scheme brought together specialist electrical infrastructure and traditional civil engineering works to create a modern charging hub capable of supporting the transition from conventional diesel vehicles to an electric bus fleet.

Completed in June 2024, the successful delivery of the Starbeck scheme subsequently led to OGL’s appointment for further infrastructure and civil engineering works associated with charging systems at Harrogate Bus Station.
